Are You Ready For The BPM Festival 2015? Probably Not.

Not to undermine your impeccable planning skills, but when it comes to preparing for The BPM Festival – you might not be as ready as you think. With just a little over 3 months to go before thousands of revelers transform the beautiful beaches of the Yucatan peninsula into a 10 day non-stop fiesta, it’s time to tie up those loose ends you might be missing.

#1 – Get A Ticket. A Real Ticket.

craigslist-scam
If you haven’t ordered your wristband yet, no worries. There will be more opportunities to purchase your 3, 7 or 10 day ticket to paradise in the upcoming months. Mind you however, there will only be limited amounts available.
If you want to have the best chance at guaranteeing your place in the sun, I highly recommend following The BPM Network on ALL of their social media outlets. Announcements will be made about ticket sales and availability through their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Shortly after the announcements are made, tickets will disappear so don’t take your eyes off those feeds!
Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable so if you were planning on buying from a stranger on Craigslist…think again! The purchaser must pick up the tickets from Will-Call only using a government issued photo ID and the credit card they bought the tickets with.

#2 – Speaking of Photo IDs – Get A Passport… Right MEOW!

baby-passport
In the United States, it can take up to two months to receive your passport in the mail after you apply, and that’s without complications. Make sure you have all the necessary documentation to obtain a passport before you visit your local post office, passport agency or embassy. Necessary documentation includes things like a birth certificate, your driver’s license, and a social security card.
If you have a passport already, take a good look at it and make sure it won’t expire until after you arrive back in your home country. An expired passport is the best way to guarantee your trip to Mexico never happens so don’t be THAT guy/girl.

#3 – Book Your Travel Options

travel-mexico
When it comes to your flight and hotel – I implore you, do not wait until the last minute. There are plenty of beautiful places to stay in the area but they will sell out as quickly as the festival does.
The BPM Festival website is encouraging travelers to use their Orbitz travel portal for booking your arrangements instead of releasing discount codes as they have done in previous years. This is certainly one option but if you’re a thrifty traveler like myself, you might be able to save more by booking a flight and hotel package together through Bookit.com or your friendly neighborhood travel agent.
And please…buy traveler’s insurance. Just trust me on this one. You NEVER know what will happen out there so expect the unexpected.

-Tips for booking your Hotel/ Resort/ Condo

Most important tip – Everything is cheaper the earlier you plan, so try to book as soon as you have the money.
Do your research! Read reviews from people who have actually stayed at the places you’re interested in booking. Save yourself the heartache of making the same mistakes others suffered through. Real people are usually more reliable than the companies themselves as they are less biased.
Also look for the place on Google Maps and estimate the distance from your bed to the nightlife. If it’s more than a 15 minute walk from Mamita’s Beach Club or the other popular parties of the week, you might want to get a little closer. Mexico is beautiful but it is also dangerous for tourists. You don’t want to venture too far from the crowds alone so book something close and avoid that.
BPM-2013-MAP
-All Inclusive Resorts – Make sure they are actually all-inclusive. Many resorts claim to be everything you need and more but when you read the fine print much of what you expected is not included. Some places may limit you to rail drinks or domestic alcohol. Others may limit your number of meals. Call the resort you are interested in and ask a representative what they mean by “all inclusive” before you commit.
-Condos or Private Homes – You can definitely save a ton of money by opting to rent a home you can share with 20 of your closest friends. It may not come with the room service of a hotel but if you’re just in town to have a good time you may not need all the excess luxuries. For this option, my advice to you is to make sure the community is gated and to do a little research on the owners.
The last thing you need during your vacation is to find yourself in the middle of the hiding spot for a Mexican cartel. Yes… These things do happen. Always better to play it safe than sorry, because in this case you could end up with a Missing Person’s photo of you on the news. Most places are fine, but the added security of a gate and a nice community will help you sleep easy when you actually do sleep.

#4 – Research Tourist Attractions and Activities. The Chichen Itza is Calling Your Name.

chichen-itza
Don’t get me wrong. I want to party for 10 days straight as much as the next person but in a place this culturally rich – you will be seriously missing out if that’s all you have planned. From the ancient ruins of one of the greatest civilizations the world has ever known to the breathtaking natural wonders hidden in every crevice of the Yucatan, there is so much to see and do.
If you do choose to visit the Chichen Itza, expect the trip to take up most of one day. The site is over 100 miles from the Riviera Maya and can be a little overwhelming in size when traveling without a guide. If you’re on a time constraint, ask a guide on site to show you around.
The site is open everyday from 9am to 5pm. Entrance usually costs around 145 pesos ($10.78) for tax and 59 pesos ($4.39) for a ticket. If you want to bring a camera it’s about 45 pesos ($3.34) extra. A small price to pay to visit one of the 7 wonders of the world.
cenote-mexico
If you don’t want to travel so far from the festivities, you can also try snorkeling off of one the nearby beaches. Akumal Beach in particular is known for their vibrant underwater life, home to active coral reefs, sea turtles and even manta rays.
For a little more money you can also consider a guided Cenote Dive Tour. Mexico’s underwater caverns are some of the most spectacular hidden treasures in the world and for the small price of about $150 you can cave dive safely with an expert guide and all the necessary equipment.
Do your own Googling though to discover more activities that interest you before you arrive. You might find yourself crossing a few bucket list items while you’re there.

#5 – Start Saving Your Money

Save-Money
This trip will be expensive. No matter how many corners you cut and coupons you clip – you never know what will come up while you’re there. For most people the flight and hotel alone for 11 to 13 days might end up costing around $2000. My advice is to always round up from whatever you think you might spend. Consider food, drinks, travel and emergencies before you arrive. Emptying your bank account before the end of the trip will put a damper on your fun time.
Always leave a little wiggle room. If you think your trip will cost a total of $2600 then save $3000. It may seem obvious to some but many of you may find yourselves in a pickle when you miss your flight and have to spend $200 to reschedule or when your luggage doesn’t arrive and you have to buy a whole new wardrobe in Mexico.

Six Reasons Buku Fest Is The Best

Whether you’re enjoying a show at a famous venue or simply walking down the street, music is in every corner of New Orleans. For decades, NOLA has been revered for its cultivation of musical talent and trends, and as of late electronic has been carving out its spot in the city’s musical landscape.
Three years ago Winter Circle Productions held the first Buku Music and Art Project, its goal to showcase a unique blend of electronic, hip-hop and local music. While maintaining the festival’s intimate setting, today the event has grown in attendance and importance, and according to NOLA.com is the city’s fastest growing festival. We’re not surprised, as each year the event delivers an incredible lineup and an even more impressive ticket price.

Music festivals are great, but can sometimes be stressful or expensive due to size and corporate influence. While Buku Fest is growing, it still has a while before it compares in size, cost and mentality to festival giants like Ultra, Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza. Until then, there are several reasons why the Buku Music and Art Project is one of the best festivals around. Read those reasons below and start putting aside the laughably affordable $169.50 you need to attend next year’s Buku Fest.

buku stage layout wrr

1. The Intimate Setting

Not only is Buku Fest held at one of the coolest venues around, Mardi Gras World, it features only three stages, which is almost unheard of in the festival world. Two indoor and one outdoors, all three stages are in close proximity to each other and super easy to move between. Unlike festivals like Bonnaroo where you are forced to tailor your concert schedule to a few juxtaposing stages, at Buku you can attend any show by walking no more than five minutes away. You really get your money’s worth at Buku, as you are able to move freely from stage to stage and fit as much music in as possible.

buku wristbands wrr

2. The Ticket Price

For many music lovers, ticket prices make most festivals unattainable; Buku Fest is not one of those festivals. A two-day general admission ticket goes for $169.50, which is absurdly low compared to festivals such as Ultra, $399.95, Electric Forest, $269.50, and EDC, $240.00. While Ultra and Electric Forest are three-day festivals, Buku features a similar lineup for a significantly lower price. Because Buku is a relatively new festival, once on festival grounds most food and drink prices are affordable as well. All in all, Buku allows for an unforgettable experience that won’t break the bank.

buku fashion

3. The Fashion

One thing I’ve noticed every year about Buku is the unique fashion. Perhaps due to the mix of genres on the lineup, festival-goers venture outside the realm of furry boots and kandi bracelets to really experiment with their style. There is a huge focus on art at Buku Fest, and many attendees use their bodies as canvasses with fashion-forward outfits and experimental body art. The eclectic mix of both male and female wardrobes makes for an awesome people-watching experience.

buku glitch mob wrr

4. Late Night Sets

In New Orleans there is no enforced closing time for bars, and the same mentality applies to music festivals. While all Buku sets must move inside by midnight, the actual festival does not end until 2 a.m., with after parties stretching as late as 6 a.m. Many festival pros agree that the last thing you want to do after a high-energy event is to go to sleep, so late-night sets and after parties provide the perfect continuation to the evening.

buku hangout 2

5. The Hangout Spots

After a physically exhausting, 2 hour dance-heavy set, sometimes you need a minute to decompress, relax, and regain strength for the next show. Buku Fest provides the most epic hangout spots of any festival I’ve attended. Whether it’s the massive suspended net where tired attendees can put their feet up or the super-secret seats with a view of the Mississippi, Buku Fest guarantees a crazy yet comfortable weekend.

buku new orleans wrr

6. IT’S IN NEW ORLEANS, Y’ALL

I don’t think this requires much explanation, but come on, this festival takes place in one of the most culturally rich, musically dense cities in America. When you buy a ticket to Buku, you’re not only getting the opportunity to attend an awesome music festival, but also the experience of visiting one of the greatest cities on Earth. It’s a double whammy of uncontrollable awesomeness.

Future Festival 2014 line up released

Welcome to the Future Festival, the annual festival taking place in the green hills of 't Twiske just above Amsterdam, has just announced it's line up for 2014.

With all Early Bird tickets selling out in only minutes, it's finally time to reveal who will be taking place behind the decks on July 26th. Spread out over 7 different stages, over 47 of the world's leading acts and artists will be celebrating the broad spectrum of underground electronic music with us, with among others AGORIA, BETTER LOST THAN STUPID (MARTIN BUTTRICHT, MATTHIAS TANZMANN, DAVIDE SQUILLACE), CHRIS LIEBING, GEORGE FITZGERALD, GROOVE ARMADA,KÖLSCH, LOCO DICEMATHEW JONSON, MATHIAS KADEN, PLANETARY ASSAULT SYSTEMS, RICARDO VILLALOBOS, RØDHÅD and SCUBA (in alphabetical order).

With a Mainstage line up consisting of a mix of long time crowd favourites, there's surely something to enjoy for every enthusiast out there. Be it for One of LOCO DICE's spectacular sets, the intricate collaboration BETTER LOST THAN STUPID consisting of MARTIN BUTTRICH, MATTHIAS TANZMANN & DAVIDE SQUILLACE, seeing long time veteran BUTCH show his experience, coming early to see the MAN WITH NO SHADOW and M_nus talent JORAN VAN POL, or the spectacular wildcard of this stage: the legendary GROOVE ARMADA.

Techno connaisseurs are served well, with CLR head honcho CHRIS LIEBING, LUKE SLATER'sPLANETARY ASSAULT SYSTEMS, ROD, FUNCTION, upcoming talent from Berlin RØDHÅD, MAKAM and JEAN PIERRE ENFANT opening op the stage, warming up the stacks of Funktion One for 12 hours of bOne shaking techno of all kinds.

Hosting their own stage again this year is revered Amsterdam nightclub Studio 80. RICARDO VILLALOBOS will once again be closing the day after his much spoken of set at last year's Welcome to the Future Festival. It's not going to be easy for the Chilean-German visionary, as he's on after MATHIAS KADEN, who's known for swiping dance floors off their feet all around the world. Fans of the deeper, melodic side of techno will get their fix during MATHEW JONSONS live set, who's on after SONJA MOOneAR. Dutch support will come from WILLIAM KOUAM DJOKO, SERGE and long time Welcome to the Future resident DORINE DORADO.

On July 26th, the Future stage will be the domain of forward thinking house animals. SCUBA and GEORGE FITZGERALD are both known for their eclectic styles filled with warm house sounds, looped 2 step grooves and rolling basslines. TOM TRAGO, CINNAMAN, JOB JOBSE, and FRITS WENTINK already operate on the top of the scene in Amsterdam and will be teaming up in the Future, with a live set from TOM DEMAC to top it all off.

Off to the Circus! There's bound to be mayhem in this tent, as KÖLSCH won't leave anything in One piece before he's dOne, although we're sure AGORIA will have dOne enough business at that point of the evening. The KEINEMUSIK boys will be on during the afternoon with OLIVIER WEITER,PRUNK and SEKOIA founder FLORINSZ JANVIER opening up the day.

Welcome to the Future's intimate stages always end up being the most fun of the day for lots of people. Not really a surprise looking at the line ups, which are just as interesting as they are intriguing. At the garden it's SANDRIEN, TOMMY FOUR SEVEN, ALDEN TYRELL (live), DE SLUWE VOS and ONNO waving the scepter. In the Forest it's an all star, all Dutch line up consisting of BRAM FIDDER, ELIAS MAZIAN, KID SUBLIME, TIM HOEBEN, TSEPO, MALIN GENIE and TIJN BENEDEK.

Toronto’s Bud Light Digital Dreams Festival

Being one of the most prominent festivals in eastern Canada, Toronto’s annual Bud Light Digital Dreams festival has begun their lineup announcement with a bang, with the first name to be announced none other than dance music icon, Tiesto. Set to take place at the Flats at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre (Ontario Place), this year will be the third annual instalment of this festival, and the organizers have made it very clear that the 2014 edition will easily surpass previous years.

This year, a number of new additions, as well as improvements have been made to the event, with one of the most discernible being the festival’s recent partnership with Bud Light (hence the change in name). The festival will also be delivering their lineup at a steady pace over the next 45-60 days, with one artist announcement to be made every 24 hours. This event is renowned for its diverse group of performers, and has boasted very unique lineups in its past years to satisfy all types of dance music fans. In addition to bringing in some of the biggest names in the electronic music scene, many underground subgenres have also been very well represented at the festival.

Bud Light Digital Dreams Festival is also offering a unique cashless experience for its attendees, as all transactions at the event will be made using RFID wristband technology. In an effort to eradicate long lineups, and provide a better overall experience, each festival goer will register their wristband online before the event, and will load money onto the band using credit, debit, or cash. At the festival, it will be scanned when making a purchase, with the price of the item then deducted automatically from their account. There will be stations available on the grounds for the attendees to reload their wristbands if necessary.

This festival will be taking place over June 28 – 29th, and it has been rumoured that its stage productions will be comparable to that of Ultra in Miami. Many festival goers will be waiting in eager anticipation to see the rest of the lineup, and there is no question that Bud Light Digital Dreams will offer an unparalleled experience for dance music fans of all tastes.

Pacha festival 2014

MK is back!

Ibiza Hippie Markt

Pacha Festival = Ibiza = Hippie Markt.

Their phase three lineup will be coming soon and you’re probably thinking: “how can it get much better than this?” Alongside the phase two announcement came the setlist breakdown for various stages. At a glance you’ll probably notice, like last year, this year there will be some tough time slot decisions.

Tomorrowland 2014

Out of all the massive electronic music festivals that have popped up in the past couple years, many dance music fans would agree that Tomorrowland is definitely one of the most notable. With tickets having sold out in a matter of seconds for its 2013 instalment, the festival boasted a stellar lineup comprised of over 400 esteemed DJs and producers to encompass a wide range of genres. The debut of it’s U.S counterpart, TomorrowWorld was also a major success this past September, which brought together approximately 140 000 enthusiastic attendees for a mind-blowing weekend in Georgia. Held in Belgium, Tomorrowland will be taking place over two weekends this year, in an effort to give more fans a chance to take part in this experience.

Taking a different approach to ticket sales this year, registration is now required to gain access to the ticket pre-sale page, although it does not mean you are guaranteed a pass to the festival. A waiting list has also been put into effect this year, where people on the list will have the chance to purchase tickets that others are trying to sell through the ticket exchange, on a first come-first serve basis.

The festival has also taken measures to prevent the secondary sale of tickets by personalizing the passes. Tickets must be personalized before the deadline of March 16th, and ID will be checked to ensure it matches with the name on the bracelet. Entry to the festival will be denied if there is a discrepancy.

Tomorrowland ticket prices:
Full Madness Pass (regular access for a weekend): $324.26
Single Day Pass (regular access for one day): $120.14
Comfort Pass: $597.28 for the weekend or $225.26 for a single day
