Capitalizing on low liquor taxes and minimal sound restrictions, Pag Island is Croatia’s answer to the White Isle. It’s no secret that Croatia is in the midst of a tourism boom, swiping clubbers from Ibiza thanks to the destination’s idyllic weather and considerably lower prices, with endless festival offshoots and swanky beach clubs setting up shop.

Open-air nightclub Papaya is one of Pag Island’s original party institutions, dominating a whopping stretch of sand in the island’s 24-hour party district, Zcre Beach. Jamie Jones, Sven Väth and French bad boys Justice have all headlined events at Papaya, and there have also been sets from big room talents Nicky Romero, Showtek and 2014’s Top 100 DJs winner, Hardwell.

If there’s one thing Papaya’s not short of it’s festivals, with the venue hosting a bunch of one-off events throughout the high season. There’s UK festival favourite Hideout, plus newer additions Fresh Island and the more underground Sonus Festival, guaranteeing that Papaya is packed to capacity almost all summer long.
