Amnesia

While its name comes from founder Antonio Escohotado's desire for Amnesia to be a place for people to let go of their everyday cares, once experienced there's no forgetting the thrills of this Ibiza original.
Starting out as home to DJ Alfredo, Balearica and the sound of early house music which a bunch of UK holiday makers exported back to Blighty in the late '80s, its history goes back even further to the '70s when it was one of the first outdoor clubs.
Like the island's other major draws, it might now be under cover, but with two giant dancefloors kitted out with a James Bond-like array of tech gadgets it still plays host to road-blocked events including Sven Väth's ever-popular Cocoon Heroes, plus Spanish-focused parties such as La Troya and Matinee.
Be warned, though the bouncers manning the VIP balcony haven't quite let go of all their cares. Show them a bare calf and you'll be left sweating it out downstairs, rather than mixing with the long trousered elite above. Web: amnesia.es
